The Public Face of Space

23/11/2009

Space Connections has been selected from a record number of proposals this year to take part in the 14th Annual Symposium held by the International Space University (ISU). Around one hundred contestants had entered, indicating a high interest in the subject of Space Education, and were evaluated by 10 members of the Symposium’s organising team. These members had the difficult task of whittling down the entries in order to select around half of the proposed contributions to take part in the 3 day event in February.

Space Connections was delighted to be informed that their lead education consultant Paul Spencer’s abstract was highly rated and consequently their paper, 'Space Connections and the Y|E|S Net: Regional networking among Space Connections providers' has been accepted for oral presentation on the afternoon of the second day. Their participation is also required for the panel discussion at the end of the session in which speakers will have further opportunities to answer questions and discuss important issues arising.

The Annual Symposium is a key element in the mix of programs that ISU, a private, non-profit educational institution, offers to the international space community. During each academic year, ISU organises a three-day symposium as an interdisciplinary, international forum to help both the users and the providers of space-related systems move forward from the discussion of problems to the formulation of innovative solutions.

The symposium will address Space Education and Outreach in a very broad way. Education should be seen here as developing the full human potential of the broader population, not just attracting young people to studying Science,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics for the nation’s technical and economic growth and development.

‘Space Connections are delighted that we have been asked to share our best practice with International Partners and look forward to assisting the generation of more Space Education Networks’ Helen Barraclough (Space Connections).
